Repent - Acts 2:38

Acts 2:38
"Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

-----------------------------------

Last week, we received this email below from Aunt Nancy and I just had to share it.  I am pretty sure she is the funniest relative that we have (except maybe my Dad)  :)

"A woman had just returned to her home from an evening of church services when she was startled by an intruder. She caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables and yelled: 'Stop! Acts 2:38!' (Repent and be Baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ , so that your sins may be forgiven.)  The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.  As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar: 'Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture to you.'  'Scripture?' replied the burglar 'She said she had an Ax and Two 38s!'  Send this to someone who needs a laugh today and remember: Knowing scripture can save your life - in more ways than one!"

The lady in this story did not have a real ax or gun but she did have something even more powerful.  The writer of Hebrews describes the word of God as "sharper than any two-edged sword" and it can definitely cut to the heart.  It would benefit all of us to know our scripture better and especially to memorize it so that we have it available no matter where we are.  I don't think any of us has the entire Bible memorize though, but with modern technology we can carry the Bible with us always.  For those of you with a "smart" device (eg iPhone), you can have the complete Bible on your device/phone using a Bible app.  The app that I like the best is simply called "Bible" and it is made by a company called YouVersion.  Just do a search in your app store and download it today!

So, remember that scripture is a powerful weapon that we need to take with us everywhere.  To be prepared, we need to read our Bibles, meditate, and memorize scripture daily!

...and don't forget to love God with all your heart, love others as He does, and use every minute for His will and to His glory!
