It is a fact that millions of people have died throughout history for their faith in Jesus. I was reminded of this recently as I began reading a book called "Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe" by Anne Applebaum. It has really opened my eyes to the extreme persecution that Christians suffered across all the Soviet bloc states of Eastern Europe, as well as in the Soviet Union itself. Christians were interrogated, tortured, imprisoned, and killed just because they were Christians.
Even today, Christians are being persecuted in countries all over the world including places like China, Russia, Iran, and most Muslim countries. Because we live in a country where we have religious freedoms, we often take for granted the privilege we have of worshipping openly. We can go to church, listen to Christian music, read the Bible, and even pray in public. However many of our believing brethren can not do any of these things without risk of retribution.
Please consider adding the Persecuted Church to your prayer list and while you are at it you might want to thank God for the country we live in and the freedoms we enjoy.
...and don't forget to love God with all your heart, love others as He does, and use every minute for His will and to His glory!
