Seek Wise Counsel - Proverbs 12:15

Proverbs 12:15
"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise."

----------------------------------

Today we get to hear a very practical lesson from Proverbs.  I especially like to read Proverbs because it has very direct, clear and practical instruction for any generation. Today's verse simple states that even fools firmly believe that they are on the right path, and to get perspective we should always seek wise counsel.  Passion and conviction are great character traits, but you better ensure that you are not passionate about a bad idea.

I am currently reading a book called "Good to Great" by Jim Collins.  He researched the greatest companies of the last 40 years and categorized the qualities that took good solid companies and made them truly great. One of the chapters is title "First Who, then What". It says that before you set any grand vision or objectives, you need to get the right people on board.  He says you need to get the right people on the bus and in the right seats, and then also get the wrong people off the bus.  His premise is that you need to have very wise advisers, and then have the humility and insight to listen to them and follow their advice.  The perfect vision without the people to execute it, is worthless.

So in your daily interactions, be humble, don't think you have all the answers and especially surround yourself with coworkers and friends who will give you good honest counsel when you need it. And don't forget that Jesus sent us the most "Wonderful Counselor" that there ever was. Don't forget to seek the wisdom of the perfect counselor living in you.

...and don't forget to love God with all your heart, love others as He does, and use every minute for His will and to His glory!
